During the African Union summit in Addis Ababa last weekend, Somalia accused Ethiopia of violating its sovereignty over the Somaliland deal. Nanjala Nyabola speaks with Democracy Now about the different issues being discussed from Sudan to the tense relationship between Rwanda and DRC, to the relationship between Africa and global superpowers. The African Union reached 20 years of existence this year. From the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), five authors share their thoughts on the future of the organization.

  • Senegal’s Constitutional Court has ruled against Macky Sall’s attempt to extend his presidential term. Sall has confirmed he will step down when his mandate ends in April, but has yet to set a new date for elections originally scheduled for this week.
  • A new move by the Africa Centre for Disease Control seeks to establish a continental market for procurement of medical devices and vaccines.
  • Disney’s collaboration with Kugali Media, a pan-African animation studio based in the UK, is being released on February 28th. Set in a futuristic Lagos, the series follows friends Tola and Kole.
