Harmata is a 2nd-Year PhD student in Sociology at the University of Toronto. She studied African Studies and Sociology at McGill University and seeks to merge both her fields in her research. Her MA project focused on political economy and the relationship between armed rebel groups and civilians in DR Congo’s mining industry. Her research interests include collective memory making, crime and punishment, social movements, identity formation, and the political economy of development.
